Paul Murty is a senior intellectual property attorney at Smith & Hopen since 2017. He represents universities, corporations, and independent inventors, both domestic and foreign, in all aspects of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, domain name disputes, and trade secrets.
Mr. Murty’s extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications spans a variety of technological disciplines, including mechanical devices, medical devices, software, additive manufacturing processes, wireless connectivity devices and protocols, renewable energy capture, and biotechnology.
Mr. Murty earned both a Bachelor degree and a Juris Doctorate degree with an Intellectual Property Law certificate from the University of Florida. While at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, he received several awards, including Book Awards for obtaining the highest grade in Patent Prosecution & Drafting and in an Entrepreneurship Law Practicum, in which Mr. Murty worked with local clients on a pro bono basis. Mr. Murty completed an internship at a biotechnology startup focused on identifying biomarkers indicative of traumatic brain injury. In addition, Mr. Murty interned at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, in which Mr. Murty worked under the direction of a Patent Examiner.
Mr. Murty is a registered U.S. Patent and Trademark Attorney and a member of the Florida bar.
